Effect of group psychological intervention based on knowledge, attitude and practice theory on self perceived burden and quality of life of lung cancer patients

Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of group psychological intervention based on knowledge attitude practice(KAP) theory on self perceived burden and quality of life of lung cancer patients. Methods A total of 86 patients with lung cancer treated in Jiujiang Third People′s Hospital in Jiangxi Province from April 2019 to July 2020 were selected and divided into two groups according to random number table method, 43 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing,and the observation group was given group psychological intervention based on KAP theory.The self perceived burden and quality of life of the patients before and 1 month after the intervention were compared. Results Before the intervention, there were no significant difference in the scores of self perceived burden and quality of life between the two groups (P>0.05). After the intervention, the scores of self perceived burden in the two groups were lower than those before the intervention, and the scores of physiological, social/family, emotional and functional conditions in the quality of life were higher than those before the intervention, with statistical differences (P<0.05); after the intervention, the scores of self perceived burden in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the scores of physiological, social/family, emotional and functional conditions in the quality of life were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Group psychological intervention based on KAP theory can reduce the self perceived burden of lung cancer patients and improve their quality of life.
