Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of continuous nursing on the growth and neurodevelopment at infancy stage in premature infants with extremely low birth weight. Methods Eighty infants with extremely low birth weight admitted to our hospital from March 2012 to March 2017 were selected. They were divided into the control group (n=40)and the observation group (n=40)according to random number table method. In the control group, routine care was used, while in the observation group, continuing nursing intervention was added on the basis of routine care. The body weight at o,6,and 12 months old were collected for growth and development evaluation. The neurodevelopment from five aspects including language and gross motor using Pediatric Neuropsychological Development Scale for 0-6 years old was evaluated. Results After continuing nursing in the observation group, the length and body weight of the children at 6 and 12 months old were both superior to those of the control group (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in head circumference(P>0.05).In the observation group, after the continuing nursing, the scores of the gross motor, language, fine movements, adaptability, and social ability were all higher than those of the control group (P<0.05).The mean value of developmental quotient of the children in the observation group at 3,6,and 12 months old was better than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Continuing nursing is beneficial to promote the growth and neurodevelopment of premature infants with extremely low birth weight, which is worthy of clinical application.
