Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between the burden of caregivers of burn patients and the quality of life. Methods A self-designed general survey form, a short form 36 health survey (SF-36), and Zarit burden interview(ZBI) were applied to investigate the burden and quality of life of 220 primary caregivers of 220 burn patients treated in the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. Results Six invalid questionnaires were eliminated, and 214 main caregivers of burn patients were finally recruited as the subjects of study. The total score of care burden for the caregivers of 214 burn patients was(34.22±14.68)points;the personal burden score was (20.27±7.67) points, and the responsibility burden score was (7.29±5.22) points. The scores of physical function and social function of the caregivers of burn patients were higher than those of the national norm, and the scores of general health, energy, emotional function and mental health were lower than those of the national norm (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis results of the relationship between caregivers burden and quality of life of burn patients showed that the burden of responsibility, personal burden and total burden score of the caregivers of burn patients were negatively correlated with their energy, emotional function and mental health(P<0.05).Conclusion The burden of burn patients′caregivers is negatively correlated with their quality of life. The caregivers of burn patients have a burden of care and their quality of life is impaired. Relevant professionals can pay attention to the burden of caregivers, provide necessary support, and improve caregivers′ quality of life.
