Abstract:Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus can cause cognitive impairment through a variety of mechanisms, and their risk of developing dementia is twice as high as people without diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is gradually increasing. Early diagnosis of cognitive impairment and drug intervention are of great value to delay or even reverse the progression of the disease. As an objective neural electrophysiological index, event-related potential P300 has the advantages of noninvasive, short test time, and no need for verbal, literal and movement cooperation of subjects. Compared with normal people, the latency of P300 in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is longer and the amplitude is lower, which can be used to identify and evaluate the impairment of cognitive function in the early stage of clinical practice. It is of great significance to prevent the occurrence of dementia, improve the prognosis and long-term quality of life of patients. Therefore, this article summaries the origin, clinical application and research prospect of P300 test in the assessment of cognitive impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
