Study on preventing sore throat using Dexmedetom idine after operation in patients scheduled for abdom inal surgery and given endotracheal intubation and general anesthesia

Abstract:Objective To study the prevention role of Dexmedetomidine on sore throat after operation in patients scheduled for abdominal surgery and given endotracheal intubation and general anesthesia. Methods 100 patients with endotracheal intubation and general anesthesia undergoing abdominal surgery were admitted into the hospital from December 2010 to March 2016 were selected and randomly divided into two groups (observation group and control group),therewere 50 cases in each group.Two groups of patientswere treated with the same drug anesthesia.Observation group was administered with constant intravenous infusion of Dexmedetomidine 30 minutes before the completion of the surgery.Control Group was treated with intravenous infusion of sodium chloride injection.The incidence rate of sore throat,extubation time and spontaneous breathing recovery time between two groups was compared respectively.Results The incidence rate of sore throat in observation group (10.00%)was significantly lower than that of control group (40.00%)(P<0.05).theextubation timeand spontaneousbreathing recovery time ofobservation groupwas(12.06±1.54)min and(5.67±2.85)min without significant difference in comparison with control group[(12.12±1.29)min,(5.69±2.81)min](P>0.05).Conclusion Dexmedetomidine demonstrates its great effectiveness in prevention of sore throat.
