Abstract:Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) in the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 patients with suspected pelvic inflammatory disease admitted to our hospital from June 2017 to May 2019 were enrolled in the study. The levels of serum PCT and C-reactive protein (CRP) before and after treatment were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer.Specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of PCT and CRP in the diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease. Results Of the 120 patients with suspected pelvic inflammatory disease had definite pathogen infection after laboratory examination (all patients had typical clinical symptoms and signs of pelvic inflammatory disease).Finally,49 patients were diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease by laparoscopy and 71 patients with non-pelvic inflammatory disease.Serum PCT examination results confirmed 54 patients with pelvic inflammatory disease, including 16 false positives;serum CRP examination results confirmed 51 patients with pelvic inflammatory disease, including 25 false positives. The sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of PCT diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease were higher than serum CRP,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion PCT has a high diagnostic value for pelvic inflammatory disease and can be used to guide clinical rational selection of treatment options.
