Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of application of Lamotrigine in patients with trigeminal neuralgia. Methods A total of 134 patients with trigeminal neuralgia who were treated in our hospital from June 2011 to June 2016 were selected as the subjects of the research. All the patients were divided into the Lamotrigine group and Carbamazepine group according to the random number table method, with 67 cases in each group.Patients in the Lamotrigine group acceped Lamotrigine Dispersible Tablets, and patients in the Carbamazepine group acceped Carbamazepine orally. The pain visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain degrees of the patients. The quality of life scale for patients with trigeminal neuralgia was also adopted for assessment of their quality of life before and after treatment. The curative effect and adverse reactions of the two groups of patients were compared. Results Before treatment, there was no significant difference in VAS between the two groups (P>0.05);after treatment, the VAS score of the two groups was lower than before, and the VAS score of the Lamotrigine group was lower than that of the Carbamazepine group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference between the dimensions and total scores of the two groups of patients on the quality of life scale (P>0.05);after treatment, the dimensions and total scores of the two groups of patients were lower than those before treatment, the dimensions and total scores of the quality of life scale of patients in the Lamotrigine group were lower than those in the carbamazepine group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion Lamotrigine has a good application effect in patients with trigeminal neuralgia, which can effectively alleviate pain and improve the patients′ quality of life.
