Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of acupuncture and massage combined with lumbar core muscle strength training on the Oswestry disability index (ODI) score, trunk muscle strength and short-form of McGill pain questionnaire(MPQ) score in patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods A total of 136 patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation who were treated in the Department of Orthopedics of Liaoning Provincial People′s Hospital from January 2017 to August 2019 were selected as the research objects, and they were divided into the study group(n=68)and the control group(n=68)by the random number table method. Patients in the control group were treated with lumbar core muscle strength training, and patients in the research group were treated with acupuncture and massage on the basis of the control group. The ODI scores, trunk muscle strength, MPQ scores and total effective rates were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the ODI scores of the two groups were lower than those before treatment, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), and the ODI score of study group was lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the trunk muscle strength levels of patients in the two groups were better than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05), the trunk muscle strength level of patients in the study group was better than that of patients in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of various items on MPQ in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05),the scores of various items on MPQ in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the total effective rate of the study group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with lumbar core muscle strength training alone, acupuncture and massage combined with lumbar core muscle strength training has more advantages in reducing the ODI score, improving trunk muscle strength, relieving pain and increasing the curative effect in patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.
