Abstract:Objective To explore the application effect of modified closed-mouth impression in repairing complete dentures in elderly patients. Methods A total of 80 elderly patients who received complete denture restoration in the Department of Stomatology, Shaoguan Stomatological Hospital from August 2018 to August 2019 were selected as the research subjects. According to the random number talbe method, the patients were divided into the conventional group(40 cases, 55 teeth) and the improved group (40 cases, 58 teeth). The conventional group was treated with traditional open impression, while the improved group was treated with modified closed-mouth impression. The clinical effects, complete denture restoration effects, the total incidence of adverse reactions, and the qualified rate of denture restoration quality of patients between the two groups 2 months after treatment were compared. Results The total effective rate of the improved group was higher than that of the conventional group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The scores of masticatory function, oral comfort, denture retention and language function in the modified group were higher than those in the conventional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The qualified rates of denture stability, denture retention and edge extension of denture base in the modified group were higher than those in the conventional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The total incidence of adverse reactions in patients of modified group was lower than that of conventional group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion In the treatment of elderly complete dentures, the modified closed-mouth impression obtains a good application effect in high treatment safety. This therapeutic method has clinical promotion and practical value.
