Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of enamel decalcification in the application of fixed orthodontic appliances. Methods The clinical data of 60 patients who were treated with fixed orthodontic appliances in Fushun Stomatological Hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The number of demineralized teeth, demineralized rate, demineralized degree and demineralized index of enamel in the whole and different positions were observed, and patients were divided into groups according to different brushing frequency during the treatment. The soft scale index and demineralization index of patients under the influence of different brushing frequencies before and after treatment were compared. Results Among 60 patients (1326 teeth), enamel demineralization was found in 41 patients (137 teeth), the incidence rate was 68.33%, the demineralization rate was 10.33%, and the average demineralization index was (0.033±0.024). The degree of demineralization was grade 0, 1189 (89.82%), grade 1, 87 (6.56%), grade 2, 41 (3.09%) and grade 3, 9 (0.53%). Before treatment, there was no significant difference between the soft scaling index and demineralization index of patients with different brushing frequency (P>0.05). After treatment, the soft scaling index and demineralization index of patients with brushing frequency ≥3 times were lower than those with brushing frequency <3 times, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion There is a high incidence of enamel demineralization during the application of orthodontic fixed appliances, especially at the location of incisors.Clinical attention should be paid to the enamel demineralization at relevant locations, and prevention and treatment should be done.
