Abstract： Objective To explore the application value of nursing intervention model based on Orem self-care theory in patients with schizophrenia.Methods A total of 72 patients with schizophrenia admitted to Jiujiang Fifth People′s Hospital from November 2019 to November 2020 were selected as the research subjects.The patients were divided into the control group (n=36) and the observation group (n=36) by random number table method.The patients in the control group carried out routine nursing care, and the patients in the observation group adopted a nursing intervention model based on Orem′s self-care theory.The self-care ability, social function, self-esteem and overall well-being were compared between the two groups.Results Before the intervention, there were no statistically significant differences in the scores of self-concept, health awareness, self-responsibility, and self-care skills between the two groups (P＞0.05).After the intervention, self-concept, health awareness, and self-responsibility and the scores of self-care skills of the observation group were (26.64±3.58), (54.74±6.18), (19.75±3.56) and (39.61±4.72) points, higher than those of the control group of (22.58±3.27), (46.83±5.12), (15.24±3.21) and (34.46±4.05) points, with statistical differences (P＜0.05).Before the intervention, the social disability screening schedule (SDSS) and self-esteem scale (SESS) and the general well-being schedule (GWB) of the two groups did not show statistical significances (P＞0.05).After the intervention, the SESS and GWB scores of the observation group were (33.69±4.80) and (84.37±9.71) points, respectively, higher than those of the control group of (26.84±4.01) and (74.28±8.69) points, and the SDSS score of the observation group was (5.27±1.58)points, lower than the control group of (8.36±1.92) points, with statistical differences (P＜0.05).Conclusion The nursing intervention model based on Orem self-care theory can improve the self-care ability in patients with schizophrenia, improve their social functions, and enhance their sense of self-esteem and well-being.It is worthy of clinical application.
