Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty (PKP) on lumbar function and complications in patients with osteoporotic compression fractures. Methods The clinical data of 86 patients with osteoporotic compression fractures admitted to our hospital from March 2016 to March 2018 were retrospective analyzed. The patients were divided into group A and group B according to the different operation timing,43 cases in each group.Group A underwent PKP within 1 week after fracture, while group B underwent PKP within 1-2 weeks after fracture. The visual analogue scale (VAS),lumbar function and complications were compared between the two groups. Results The VAS and Oswestry lumbar dysfunction index (ODI) scores of group A were (1.06±0.43) and (10.25±2.17) points, respectively, which were lower than those of group B for (1.57±0.36) and (16.41±1.84) points, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); the total incidence of complications in group A was 4.65% (2/43),which was lower than 18.60% (8/43) in group B,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion PKP treatment in patients with osteoporotic compression fractures as early as possible can effectively reduce postoperative pain, improve lumbar function and reduce the incidence of complications.
