Effect and safety of high intensity focused ultrasound in the treatment of T2WI High signal uterine leiomyoma

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect and safety of high intensity focused ultrasound in the treatment of T2WI high signal uterine leiomyoma.Methods A total of 160 patients with hyperintense uterine fibroids on T2WI admitted to our hospital from May 2014 to July 2017 were selected as the study subjects,all patients were treated with high intensity focused ultrasound.The volume ablation rate and energy efficiency factor(EEF)level of uterine leiomyoma in different parts of patients were compared.The volume ablation rate and EEF level of uterine leiomyoma in different sizes of patients were compared.All patients were followed up for one year,and the effects of high intensity focused ultrasound on vaginal secretion and ovarian function were recorded and evaluated.Adverse reactions after high intensity focused ultrasound treatment were recorded and evaluated.Results The volume ablation rate of uterine leiomyoma in the posterior wall was lower than that in the anterior wall,and the EEF level was higher than that in the anterior wall and the lateral wall,the differences were significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in volume ablation rate between different size uterine leiomyomas (P>0.05).The EEF level of uterine leiomyoma with mean diameter > 7 cm was lower than that of uterine leiomyoma with mean diameter< 4 cm and 4-7 cm,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After 3 months of HIFU treatment,no abnormalities were found in estrogen,progesterone and follicle stimulating hormone levels.No serious adverse reactions occurred.The incidence of vaginal secretion abnormality in patients with uterine cavity distance less than 5 mm was lower than that in patients with uterine cavity distance more than 5 mm,the difference was significant(P<0.05).Conclusions High intensity focused ultrasound is effective,safe and reliable in the treatment of hyperintense uterine fibroids on T2WI,which is worthy of clinical application.
