Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of percutaneous vertebroplasty on elderly osteoporotic spinal fractures. Methods A total of 100 elderly patients with osteoporotic spinal fractures admitted to our department from June 2015 to December 2016 were divided into conservative group and surgical group according to a random number table method,50 patients in each group. In the conservative group, conservative treatment was used, while in the latter, percutaneous vertebroplasty was performed. The clinical efficacy, pain degree, and bone mineral density (BMD)were compared between the two groups after treatment. Results The total effectiveness rate after treatment in the surgical group was 92.00%,higher than that in the conservative group accounting for 78.00%with a statistical difference (P<0.05).The visual analogue scale (VAS)scores after treatment in both groups were lower than before treatment, and VAS score in the surgical group was lower compared with that in the conservative group with a significant difference (P<0.05).The BMD in the surgical group 24 and 48 week after treatment was greater than that in the conservative group with statistical significance (P<0.05).Conclusion Percutaneous vertebroplasty in the treatment of osteoporotic spinal fractures in the elderly can obtain a favorable effect by effectively relieving pain and improving BMD,which is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
