Abstract:Objective To investigate and analyze the cognition of esophageal cancer prevention and treatment knowledge in Nanao island community residents in order to point out the direction of propaganda and education in future. Methods 401 local community residents participated in esophageal cancer screening from 5 communities in Nanao island from August 2012 to December 2012 were selected as the research group.Homemade questionnaire as a research tool was used,cognitive status of esophageal cancer prevention and treatment knowledge in local residents was investigated. Results During the investigation of high risks factors of esophageal cancer cognition,the correct rates of three high risk factors included chronic inflammation of esophagus,preference for pickled vegetables or remaining food at previous night,and being fond of very hot food by urban residents in Nanao island were highest,accounted for 21.9%, 21.4%and 20.9%respectively.During the investigation of cognition status of esophageal cancer prevention knowledge, the top three cognition rate were what are symptoms of esophageal cancer at early stage,drinking alcoholic liquid and smoking always being prone to esophageal cancer,and participating in general investigation actively when esophageal cancer occurred in relatives,and the cognition rate was 23.4%,22.7%and 21.7%respectively.Television and internet were the main ways for people to obtain disease knowledge,followed by print media and health education lectures. Conclusion Cognition rate of high risk factor of esophageal cancer and its prevention and treatment knowledge by Nanao island community residents is not high,and propaganda and education of relative disease knowledge should be strengthened in future,especially implementation of activities like blackboard newspaper in community and education lectures,etc. should be paid great attention.
