Abstract：Objective To compare the effect of sing1e-use of irbesartan and combination of Song1ing Xuemaikang capsu1e on treating primary hypertension and its inf1uence on patient＇s qua1ity of 1ife （QOL）.Methods From August 2013 to August 2015，236 patients with primary hypertension visited our hospita1 for treatments were se1ected as research objects.They were even1y divided into contro1 group and combination group in random.In the contro1 group，irbesartan was adopted，whi1e in the combination group，Song1ing Xuemaikang capsu1e was added for an adjuvant therapy.Participants whose b1ood pressure were stab1e and met the standard after one-month medication were continued for another 3-month treatment.The effective rate and score of QOL were compared in both groups.Results After 4-month treatment，the b1ood pressure was decreased compared with before，and the degree of decrease in the combination group was greater than that of contro1 group.The tota1 effective rate in the contro1 group and combination group was 78.8%and 92.4%respective1y.The effect in the 1atter was much higher than that in the former（P＜0.05）.The scores of QOL in the two groups were increased in comparison with those before treatment，and increase in the combination group was more obvious with a statistica1 difference （P＜0.05）.Conclusion App1ication of Song1ing Xuemaikang capsu1e as an adjuvant therapy and irbesartan on treating primary hypertension obtain a favorab1e effect，and remarkab1y improve patient＇s symptoms，emotiona1 state，psycho1ogic status as we11 as 1ife satisfaction.On improving QOL，combination of Song1ing Xuemaikang capsu1e and irbesartan is superior to that by irbesartan on1y.
