Abstract: Objective To discuss the hypotensive effect of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent on spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) rats. Methods All of 20 SHR rats were selected and they were divided into model group, Benazepril group,high-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent group and low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent, 5 cases in each group. 5 male Wistar rats were selected as blank control group. Model group was given 2 ml/d of normal saline,Benazepril group was given 10 mg/(kg·d) of Benazepril, high-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent group was given 2 ml/d of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent extraction solution, low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent was given 0.5 ml/d of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent, blank control group was given 2 ml/d of normal saline, and they were treated with intragastric administration, once a day for 2 months. The arterial systolic blood pressure (SBP) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in serum of rats were measured before and after treatment. Results The SBP of Benazepril group and low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent after 30 days administration were lower than those before administration, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), but there were no significant differences in blank control group, model group and high dose group compared with before administration (P>0.05). SBP of blank control group and low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent after 30 days administration after 30 days administration were lower than those of model group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). SBP in lowdosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent and highdosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent after 60 days administration were lower than those before administration, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), but there was no significant differences between blank control group, model group and Benazepril group compared with those before administration (P>0.05). SBP of blank control group and low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent after 60 days administration were lower than those of model group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The serum SOD content in Benazepril group and high-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent were higher than those before administration, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), but there were no significant differences between blank control group, model group and low-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent compoared with before administration (P>0.05). The serum SOD content in Benazepril group after 60 days administration were higher than that in model group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The serum SOD content in Benazepril group and high-dosage group of Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent after 60 days administration were higher than those in model group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Oroxylum indicum (L.) Vent has antihypertensive effect on SHR rats, and the effect is obvious.
