Abstract:Objective To understand the awareness of human papilloma virus (HPV) and its vaccines among college students in Guangzhou, analyze the influencing factors, and provide relevant suggestions for the popularization of vaccines. Methods The multi-stage sampling method was used, and a total of 1226 students from ten universities in Guangzhou were selected in December 2018.A single factor and binary Logistic regression analysis were applied to explore the factors that affected college students′ cognition of HPV and HPV vaccines. Results The awareness rate of HPV vaccine among college students was 70.15%,and the percentages of people who correctly answered the validity period, the effective objects, the process, the requirements and the suitable objects of HPV vaccines accounted for 25.1%,43.4%,33.4%,26.6% and 25.4% of the overall survey respondents, respectively.Hence, the data showed that college students had low specific knowledge of vaccines.Females, medical majors, and college students with urban household registration, higher grades and high monthly living expenses were more aware of HPV vaccines, and they also knew more about HPV and its preventive vaccines (P<0.05).Conclusion Most college students are aware of the HPV vaccine, but there are cognitive biases and are affected by multi-dimensional factors.New media, family and friends are the main ways to gain awareness.Hence,it is necessary to make good use of new media, classify the population, and strengthen the popularization of science for the knowledge-less people and areas that are undervalued.
