Effects of Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction combined with Galantamine on brainstem evoked potentials and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer′s disease

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction combined with Galantamine on brainstem evoked potentials and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer′s disease (AD).Methods A total of 90 patients with AD who were treated in Yueyang Hospital of Chinese Medicine from September 2017 to June 2019 were selected as the research objects and divided into the control group and the observation group according to random number table method,with 45 cases in each group.The control group was treated with Galantamine,and the observation group was treated with Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction combined with Galantamine.Both groups were treated for 4 months.The curative effect,brainstem evoked potential and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score were compared between the two groups.Results After 4 months of treatment,the total effective rate,wave Ⅲ,wave Ⅴ,and MMSE scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group,and the latency wave Ⅲand wave Ⅴwere lower than those of the control group,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction combined with Galantamine can improve the cognitive function of AD patients,shorten the latency of brainstem evoked potentials and increase the amplitude of brainstem evoked potentials in AD patients.
