Abstract:Objective To explore application of protection motivation theory (PMT) nursing in postoperative rehabilitation of patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures. Methods A total of 60 patients who underwent thoracolumbar burst fracture treatment in Shangrao Fifth People′s Hospital from January 2016 to March 2019 were selected as study objects.According to random number table method, they were divided into observation group (n=30) and control group (n=30).The control group was given routine nursing. On this basis, observation group was additionally given PMT for nursing intervention. The degree of spinal cord injury, self-management ability, and degree of low back pain were compared between the two groups. Results At 1 and 3 months after intervention, scores of spinal cord injury (Frankel) in observation group were higher than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).At 3 months after intervention, scores of daily life management, information management, emotion management, symptom management and self-efficacy management in observation group were higher than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).At 1 and 3 months after intervention, scores of visual analogue scale (VAS) in observation group were lower than those in control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion The application of PMT in postoperative rehabilitation of thoracolumbar burst fracture patients for nursing intervention can promote recovery of injured spinal cord, improve self-management ability, and decrease VAS score.
