Abstract:Objective To investigate the status and risk factors of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with alcohol- induced mental disorder. Methods A total of 158 patients with alcohol-induced mental disorder who were admitted to our hospital from September 2016 to February 2018 were selected as subjects.Carotid ultrasonography was performed to detect the carotid intima media thickness (IMT) and the occurrence of plaque.According to the IMT patients with alcohol-induced mental disorders were divided into carotid atherosclerosis group (n=68) and carotid artery normal group(n=90).The occurrence of carotid atherosclerosis in this study was statistically analyzed. The clinical data and biochemical indexes of carotid atherosclerosis group and normal carotid artery group were compared. The influencing factors were further analyzed by multivariate Logistic regression. Results The detection rate of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with alcohol-induced mental disorders was 43.0%.The age of the carotid atherosclerosis group was higher than that of the normal carotid group, course of diseases was longer than that of the normal carotid group, fasting blood sugar was higher than that of the normal carotid group, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level was lower than that of the normal carotid group, proportions of hypertension and smoking were higher than those of the normal carotid group, the alcohol consumption was more than the normal carotid group, the drinking time was longer than normal carotid artery group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in gender between the two groups (P>0.05).The results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis suggested that lipid metabolism disorder (β=0.358, OR=1.716, 95%CI=1.501-1.996), hypertension (β=0.356, OR=1.427, 95%CI=1.202-1.786),smoking (β=0.864, OR=2.563, 95%CI=1.777-3.334), hyperglycemia (β=0.663, OR=1.977, 95%CI=1.001-3.801), alcohol consumption (β=0.596, OR=1.466, 95%CI=1.233-1.697), drinking time (β=0.184, OR=1.038, 95%CI=1.006-1.986)were risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis in patients with alcohol-induced mental disorders (P<0.05).Conclusion Carotid ultrasound can detect atherosclerotic lesions in patients with alcohol-induced mental disorders, especially among elderly patients with high alcohol consumption, and high blood lipid levels in their early carotid artery screening, and provide objective basis for preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
