Expression of GLI1 in colon cancer and its relationship with epithelialmesenchymal transformation

Abstract:Objective To observe the relationship between the expression of GLI1 and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation in colon cancer.Methods From January 2010 to December 2015,altogether 50 specimens of surgically resected colon cancer and adjacent tissues from Jiangxi Integrated Hospital of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine were collected and made into tissue microarrays.Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of GLI1,Vimentin,N-cadherin and E-cadherin in colon cancer tissues and adjacent tissues.Results The expression of GLI1 in the colon cancer was higher than that in the adjacent tissues,with statistically significant difference (P<0.05),which was significantly correlated with lymphatic metastasis,clinical stage and tumor differentiation of colon cancer(P<0.05).The expression of E-cadherin in the adjacent tissues was higher than that in the colon cancer,with statistically significant difference (P<0.05),which was significantly correlated with lymphatic metastasis,clinical stage and tumor differentiation of colon cancer(P<0.05).The expression of vimentin and N-cadherin were higher in the colon cancer than that in the adjacent tissues,with statistically significant difference (P<0.05),which was significantly associated with lymphatic metastasis,clinical stage,and tumor differentiation of colon cancer(P<0.05).The expression of GLI1 was associated with the state of epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of GLI1 in the colon cancer is related to Vimentin,N-cadherin and E-cadherin.It is indicated that GLI1 may participate in the epithelial-mesenchymal-transformation process.
