Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between heart rate variability (HRV)and target-organ damage in elderly hypertension. Methods From July 2015 to February 2017,a total of 135 elderly patients with hypertension treated in our hospital were enrolled as research objects.According to whether their clinical examinations were accompanied by target-organ damage or not, they were divided into the two groups:the control group (n=48,having no target-damage in hypertension)and observation group(n=87,having hypertension with target-organ damage).Examinations such as cardiac ultrasound,24-hour electrocardiogram, blood biochemistry, and carotid artery ultrasound were performed in the two groups.Time-domain analysis of HRV was carried out,and the analysis of HRV included the mean standard deviation(SDNNindex)of 5-min RR interval, root mean square of adjacent RR interval difference(RMSSD),and 24 h mean SD interval of normal sinus beats(SDNN),etc.Intima-media thickness(IMT),microalbunminuria(MAU),left ventricular mass index (LVMI)and creatinine (Cr)level in patients between the two groups were compared. Results The level of IMT,MAU,LVMI and Cr level were significantly different between the observation group and the control group (P<0.05).The RMMSD,SDANN,SDNN,PNN50 value in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).HRV level were negatively correlated with Cr,LVMI,and IMT in patients of the observation group(r=-0.36,-0.39,-0.49,P<0.05).Conclusion When target-organ damage occurs in elderly patients with hypertension, the value of HRV detection in clinic will be significantly reduced, and the greater the decrease is,the more severe the target-organ damage becomes.
