Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical value of sputum procalcitonin (PCT)and serum PCT testing in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD).Methods 80 patientswith AECOPD(A group)and 40 patients in stable period(B group)in our hospital from June 2014 to December 2015 were randomly selected, patients in A group were divided into bacterial infection group(A1 group,n=40)and non bacterial infection group(A2 group,n=40),the level of sputum and serum PCT,serum CRP of each group were tested. The results of sputum PCT,serum PCT and serum CRP of each group were compared, the relationship between sputum PCT and serum PCT was analyzed. Results The sputum and serum PCT in A1 group were higher than those in A2 group and B group, and the difference was statistical significance (P<0.05);the sputum and serum PCT in A2 group were higher than those in B group, and the difference had no statistical significance(P>0.05).The difference of CRP between A group and B group was statistical significance(P<0.05),while CRP between A1 group and A2 group had no statistical significance(P>0.05).The positive detection rate of sputum PCT was slightly higher than that of serum PCT,and the positive detection rate of sputum and serum PCT were obvious higher than that of serum CRP.The relationship analysis of sputum PCT and serum PCT showed well (r=0.721,P<0.05).Conclusion Sputum and serum PCT can be used as inflammatory index in early prediction of AECOPD and is better than CRP.In reflecting local bacterial infection of respiratory tract, sputum PCT is better than serum PCT,and sputum PCT has the advantages of convenient detection, fast and easy to obtain specimens, which is suitable for clinical promotion.
