Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on nicotine craving in patients with depression. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 90 patients with depression admitted to Department of Psychiatry, the Third People′s Hospital of Ganzhou from January 2018 to January 2020. The patients were grouped according to different treatment methods and divided into the control group and the study group, with 45 cases in each group. The control group received conventional drug therapy, while the study group received high-frequency repetitive transcranial stimulation on the basis of drug therapy. The Fagerstrom test of nicotine dependence (FTND) was used to evaluate the nicotine craving before and after treatment, and the Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) was used to evaluate the treatment effect. Meanwhile, the changes of neurotransmitter levels before and after treatment were compared and observed in the two groups. Results There was no statistically significant difference in FTND score in the control group before and after treatment (P>0.05). The FTND score in the study group after treatment was lower than that before treatment, and lower than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the HAMD score of the study group was lower than that of the control group, while the serum levels of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HT), dopamine (DA) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) were higher than those of the control group the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion In the treatment of patients with depression, high-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation can effectively regulate the function of neurons, reduce the patients′ nicotine craving, and promote the improvement of clinical efficacy.
