Abstract：Objective To exp1ore the c1inica1 effects of proca1citonin in treating severe pneumonia. Methods 64 severe pneumonia patients from January 2013 to June 2015 of our hospita1 were random1y se1ected as study object.64 mi1d pneumonia at the same term were random1y se1ected as contro1 group.B1ood routine examination were conducted by co1-1ecting venous b1ood.The index of PCT，WBC，CRP and temperature were eva1uated.According to the difference of PCT 1eve1，64 patients in observation group were divided into group A (n=3，PCT≥0.5 μg/L)，group B (n=5，0.5 μg/L＜PCT≤2 μg/L)，group C (n=42，2 μg/L＜PCT≤10 μg/L) and group D (n=14，PCT＞10 μg/L).The index of death rate，venti1ator using rate and antibiotic treatment time were eva1uated. Results The 1eve1 of PCT and CRP in observation group were obvious higher than those in contro1 group，and the differences were significant (P＜0.05)，whi1e the 1eve1 of WBC and temperature between groups had no statistica1 significance (P＞0.05).The prognostic indicator of severe pneumonia patients had positive re1ation with the 1eve1 of PCT，and with the high 1eve1 of PCT，the high death rate，venti1ator using rate and antibiotic treatment time (P＜0.05). Conclusion Proca1citonin in treating severe pneumonia has great meaning.It can provide scientific reference basis for c1inica1 diagnosis of severe pneumonia.
