Abstract:Objective To explore the expression and clinical significance of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)in Hashimoto′s thyroiditis(HT)combined with papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC),in order to provide guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods The paraffin specimens of 85 patients with HT and PTC in the Department of Pathology of Bengang General Hospital of Liaoning Health Industry Group from July 2019 to July 2020 were collected to detected the expression of COX-2.The positive expression rates of COX-2 in cancer tissues and adjacent tissues were compared, the clinical data of the patients were analyzed, the positive expression rate of COX-2 in cancer tissues of patients with different pathological characteristics [tumor number, tumor diameter,TNM stage, capsule invasion, lymph node metastasis(LNM)]were compared. Results The positive expression rate of COX-2 in cancer tissues of patients with HT combined with PTC was higher than that in adjacent tissues, the difference was significant statistically(P<0.05).The positive expression rate of COX-2 in HT and PTC patients with capsule invasion was higher than that in patients without capsule invasion, the positive expression rate of COX-2 in HT patients with PTC and LNM was higher than that in patients without LNM,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between the positive expression rate of COX-2 in cancer tissues of different tumor number, tumor diameter,TNM stage(P >0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the positive expression of COX-2 might be the influencing factor of capsule invasion and LNM in HT patients with PTC(OR>1,P<0.05).Conclusion The abnormally high expression of COX-2 is closely related to the disease development of HT combined with PTC,which may indicate the occurrence of LNM and capsule invasion. The severity of HT combined with PTC can be predicted based on the expression of COX-2.
