Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion in treating peripheral facial paralysis. Methods A total of 90 cases of peripheral facial paralysiswho were treated in the hospital from February 2013 to January 2014 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into control group and observation group according to the treatmentmethods, with 45 cases in each group.Peripheral facial paralysis patients in control group were given with western medicine treatment;while, observation group accepted acupuncture and moxibustion treatment. The function of House-Brackmann(H-B)facial nerve grading scale,FDIP score(facial disability index, physical functions),FDIS(facial disability index, social functions)and the clinical curative effect of two groups of patientswere observed. Results The total improvement rate of peripheral facial paralysis patients in observation group was 86.67%,better than 55.56%in control group, and the differencewas statistically significant(P<0.05).The H-B facial nerve function score,FDIP score and FDIS score in the observation group were better than those in the control group, the difference were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Application of acupuncture and moxibustion in patientswith peripheral facial paralysis can effectively improve facial nerve functions and clinical curative effects of peripheral facial paralysis patients, with high safety and significant effects, which isworthy ofwider promotion in clinical implementation.
