Abstract:ObjectiveTo analyze the clinical features of oral and maxillofacial space infection in patients with primary and secondary diabetes mellitus.MethodsThe clinical data of 138 patients diagnosed with oral and maxillofacial space infection treated in department of oral and maxillofacial surgery from April 2011 to April 2016was retrospectively analyzed.According to diabetes history and clinical examination, they were divided into secondary diabetes mellitus group (39 cases),primary diabetic group(53 cases)and control group[46 cases(non diabetes)].ResultsIn the primary diabetes mellitus group, secondary diabetes group and control group, the space infection rate of men (62.26%,64.10%,62.26%) was obviously higher than that of women respectively(37.74%,35.90%,37.74%)(P<0.05).The incidence rate of odontogenic infection in primary diabetes mellitus group(86.79%)was significantly higher than that of the secondary diabetes group(66.67%)and control group(67.39%)(P<0.05).The heating rate of secondary diabetes mellitus group(100.00%) and the rate of multiple clearance (100.00%)was significantly higher than that in the primary diabetes mellitus group (90.57%,41.51%)and the control group(58.70%,19.57%)(P<0.05).Abscess drainage in patients with diabetes mellitus were mainly for bacterial strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, and there was significant difference between two groups(P<0.01).ConclusionDiabetes mellitus complicated with infection of oral and maxillofacial space infection is more serious, and secondary diabetes mellitus is more serious than that of primary diabetic patients.Patients with diabetes mellitus should be attached great importance, especially those with secondary diabetes.
