Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of pterygium resection combined with limbal stem cell transplantation in the treatment of pterygium. Methods The clinical data of 238 patients with pterygium who were treated in the Department of Ophthalmology of Jianli Third People′s Hospital from July 2015 to December 2019 were selected for retrospective analysis. According to different surgical methods, they were divided into observation groups (n=119, 141 eyes)and the control group (n=119, 140 eyes). The control group used triamcinolone acetonide marked pterygium resection combined with pedicled conjunctival flap transfer, and the observation group pterygium resection combined with limbal stem cell transplantation, the clinical efficacy, total complication incidence, recurrence rate, epithelial repair time and hospitalization time of the two groups were compared, and the postoperative naked eye vision and corneal astigmatism of the two groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05). The hospitalization time, corneal epithelial repair time, and recurrence rate of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, the differences were significant (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of complications, corneal astigmatism and uncorrected visual acuity one month after surgery (P>0.05). Conclusion Limbal stem cell transplantation can improve the therapeutic effect of patients with pterygium, and has positive significance in reducing the recurrence rate after surgery and shortening the recovery time of the disease.
