Abstract:Objective To compare the diagnostic value of bedside chest X-ray and lung ultrasound in newborn pneumothorax. Methods A total of 60 newborns with suspected pneumothorax admitted to Ultrasound Medicine Department of Shenzhen Bao′an District Maternal and Child Health Hospital Affiliated to Ji′nan University Medical College from March 2018 to March 2020 were selected as the research objects.Chest X-ray and lung ultrasound examination were performed beside the bed,and chest CT was adopted as the gold standard for the diagnosis of pneumothorax. The diagnostic effectiveness and timeliness of the two methods for newborn pneumothorax were compared. Results For the diagnosis of newborn pneumothorax, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of bedside chest X-ray diagnosis were 88.46%(46/52),87.50% (7/8) and 88.33% (53/60) respectively, and the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of bedside lung ultrasound diagnosis were 96.15% (50/52),100% (8/8) and 96.67% (58/60) respectively, there were no statistically significant differences between the two methods in sensitivity, specificity and accuracy (P>0.05).The time of bedside lung ultrasound examination was shorter than that of bedside chest X-ray examination, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion The diagnosis of neonatal pneumothorax by bedside chest X-ray and lung ultrasound have higher diagnostic value, but the examination time of bedside lung ultrasound is shorter.
