Investigation and analysis of the total turnaround time of blood routine samples from adult patients in our hospital

Abstract:ObjectiveTo lay the foundation for further analysis the total TAT of biochemical and immunization and allover other projects,and then provide objective basis for shortening total TAT and increasing patients′satisfaction through the investigation and analysis of the total turnaround time(TAT)of the blood routine samples from adults in our hospital.Methods11 662 blood routine samples from January to June 2016 in our hospital were randomly selected and divided into outpatient,inpatient,emergency groups;and morning,afternoon,night time.The average of pre-analytical,intral-aboratory,post-analytical TAT and inpatient specimen total TAT were compared and analyzed,the mean value was calculated and the differences between each group were compared.ResultsInpatient specimen total TAT,pre-analytical and intral-aboratory TAT were significantly longer than that of outpatient and emergency groups,with significant difference (P<0.05).The total TAT was the shortest in the afternoon time.Pre-analytical,intral-aboratory and post-analytical TAT in the afternoon time was significantly shorter than the other two groups,the pre-analytical and intral-aboratory TAT in the morning time was significantly longer than that in the afternoon and night time,with significant difference (P<0.05).Most of the intral-aboratory TAT were within 30 min.The pre-analytical and post-analytical TAT contributed a large proportion of the total TAT.ConclusionSpecimen quantity is one of the important factors affecting total TAT. Extral-aboratory delays are responsible for a large proportion of the total TAT.Perfect hospital information system(HIS) and laboratory information system(LIS)play an irreplaceable role in shortening the total TAT.
