| Meta-analysis of influenza vaccination effect in the elderly people |

Abstract Objective To systematically evaluate the adverse reactions and protective effects of influenza vaccination in the elderly people.Methods Through several electronic databases,such as PubMed,EMBase,Cochrane and CNKI databases,randomized controlled trials (RCT) of influenza vaccination in elderly people were searched.The retrieval time was from the establishment of the database to August 2020.Heterogeneity was evaluated by Cohan′s Q and I2 statistic,and publication bias was examined by funnel plot,Begg′s and Egger′s tests.The Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 12.0 software.Results A total of 9 articles were included in this review.Overall,there was no statistically significant difference for the risk of adverse reactions between influenza vaccination and the placebo control group(RR=1.221,95%CI: 0.772-1.932).There was no significant difference in systemic adverse reactions between the two groups (RR=1.167,95%CI: 0.917-1.484).For the local adverse reactions,the risk of influenza vaccination group was higher than that of placebo control group,and the difference was statistically significant (RR=3.981,95%CI: 2.459-6.444).For the risk of influenza or influenza-like symptoms,the influenza vaccination group was lower than the placebo control group (RR=0.504,95%CI: 0.369-0.688).Conclusion Influenza vaccination in the elderly people can significantly reduce the risk of influenza or influenza-like symptoms,although there is a risk of local adverse reactions.However,because of the small number of studies,multi-center RCTs with large sample size are still needed to carry out in the future.
