Abstract:Objective To analyze the correlation between serum homocysteine (Hcy) level and atrial fibrillation (AF) in elderly patients with acute cerebral infarction (ACI).Methods A total of 120 elderly ACI patients admitted to Yangjiang People′s Hospital from March 2017 to February 2020 were selected as the experimental group, and 120 healthy participants who received physical examinations in the same period were randomly selected as the reference group. The serum Hcy levels of the experimental group and the reference group were detected and compared.Patients in the experimental group were divided into the elderly ACI group (n=72) and the elderly ACI with AF group (n=48)according to whether patients with AF were complicated.Serum Hcy levels of the elderly ACI group and the elderly ACI with AF group were compared.According to the classification of cardiac function, the patients in the experimental group were divided into cardiac function level Ⅱgroup (32 cases), cardiac function level Ⅲgroup (48 cases), cardiac function level Ⅳgroup (40 cases), and the serum Hcy levels in different cardiac function groups were compared.Patients in the experimental group were divided into permanent AF group (8 cases), persistent AF group (21 cases) and paroxysmal AF group (19 cases) according to AF criteria.Serum Hcy levels in different degrees of AF groups were compared. The correlation between serum Hcy level and elderly ACI with AF was analyzed using Pearson correlation. Results The serum Hcy level in the experimental group was higher than that in the reference group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Serum Hcy level of elderly patients in ACI with AF group was higher than that in elderly ACI group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Serum Hcy level of cardiac function levelⅣgroup was higher than that in the cardiac function level Ⅲgroup and cardiac function level Ⅱgroup, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The serum Hcy level in the permanent AF group was higher than that in the persistent AF group and the paroxysmal AF group, and the serum Hcy level in the persistent AF group was higher than that in the paroxysmal AF group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that the serum Hcy level was positively correlated with the elderly ACI combined with AF (r=0.684, P=0.037).Conclusion The serum Hcy level in elderly patients with ACI is positively correlated with the severity of AF.As AF changes from paroxysmal to permanent, the serum Hcy level will gradually increase.
