Abstract:Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics and treatment strategies of children with esophageal foreign bodies caused by button batteries. Methods A total of 72 children with esophageal foreign bodies caused by button batteries in our hospital from January 2014 to June 2019 were selected as the study objects, and their clinical characteristics, degree of injury, treatment results and complications were analyzed. Results Among 72 children with esophageal foreign bodies caused by button battery,64 cases had vomiting,55 cases had difficulty swallowing,3 cases had nausea, and 14 cases had salivation. All of them had esophageal mucosal burns to varying degrees. After rigid esophageal microscopy and foreign body removal under general anesthesia, both of them were discharged smoothly. A total of 8 children had esophageal perforation. The incidence of esophageal perforation in the middle esophagus was higher than that in the upper and lower esophagus, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Children with esophageal foreign bodies caused by button batteries have symptoms of vomiting and dysphagia, which are likely to cause esophageal mucosal erosion and esophageal perforation. Early removal of foreign bodies is required to improve prognosis.
