Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the MRI features of chronic granulomatous mastitis(GM)and to improve the MRI diagnostic accuracy of the disease.MethodsThe clinical data and lesion morphology, signal, dynamic enhancement mode, time signal intensity curve (TIC)characteristics of MRI signs of 8 patients with chronic GM confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed. All those patients were collected from January 2012 to October 2015 in our hospital.ResultsThe clinical findings of 8 patients with chronic GM were all lump in the breast. It tended to occur in unilateral side of breast, with unclear border, erythro swelling of mammary skin and enlarged axillary nodes. The lesions of 6 cases showed isointensity signals on T1WI,2 cases presented low signals. The high signals on fat suppression T2WI and DWI were recorded in 8 cases. The mastitis lesions were dynamic contrast enhanced,3 cases presented mass-like enhancement pattern and 5 cases presented non-mass-like enhancement pattern.Homogenous enhancement was found in 3 cases,thick-wall circular enhancement in 2 cases and thin-wall circular enhancement in 3 cases.3 cases of those lesions displayed clear edge and 5 cases showed ill-defined border. The time-signal intensity curves were pictured as typeⅠ, typeⅡ and typeⅢ in 4,2 and 2 cases respectively.2 cases were misdiagnosed with breast cancer.ConclusionChronic GM has no specific clinical appears, the combination with MRI findings is helpful to the diagnosis of chronic GM accurately and would contribute to provide a better therapeutic program for patients.
