Abstract:Radiotherapy as the first choice of nasopharyngeal carcinoma treatment has been the focus of research.Radiotherapy is ofter considered as a local therapy and the improvement of its efficacy is affected by multiple factors.Cancer cells resistance to radiotherapy induced alternation of tumor microenvironment seriously affects the effectiveness of cancer treatment.Curcumin is a kind of natural plant extract with anti-tumor effect,which can interfere with the process of tumorigenesis and development from many aspects.Curcumin has many pharmacological functions,such as promoting cell apoptosis,blocking cell cycle,anti-inflammation,anti-metastasis,immunomodulation and so on.Recently,immunotherapy is widely investigated in clinical cancer treatment due to its highly targeting property and mild side effect,especially through modulating the functional phenotype of innate and adaptive immune cell to augment radiotherapy efficacy.The immunomodulatory effect of Curcumin can ameliorate the tumor microenvironment,which greatly improves the efficacy of radiotherapy.In this review,the research progress of Curcumin on tumorigenesis and development and its association with tumor radiation resistance are summarized as follows.
