Abstract:Objective To study the effect of improved method for measuring the length of gastric tube indwelling on the monitoring of gastric residue in patients with stroke. Methods The clinical data of 100 patients with stroke admitted to our hospital from May 2017 to May 2019 who underwent enteral nutrition through nasogastric tube were retrospectively analyzed. According to the different length of gastric tube indwelling,the patients were divided into control group and experimental group,with 50 patients in each group. The control group used the traditional method to measure the length of gastric tube indwelling,and the experimental group used the modified method to measure the length of gastric tube indwelling. The lengths of indwelling gastric tube in each height segment (height<160,160-170 and >170 cm)were compared between the two groups of patients. The incidence rates of reflux,cough and aspiration were compared between the two groups. Gastric residue monitoring was compared between the two groups. Results The lengths of indwelling gastric tube in the experimental group of patients in each height segment were longer than those in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The incidence rates of aspiration,cough and reflux in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group,with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The gastric residual amount on the 9th,and 10th days of the experimental group were lower than those on the 2nd day,and the gastric residual amount on the 2nd,3rd,9th,and 10th days of the experimental group were higher than those in the control group,with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion The improved method for measuring the length of indwelling gastric tube can accurately detect the residual amount in the stomach and reduce the incidence of aspiration,cough and reflux.
