Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).Methods A total of 80 patients with CRS admitted to Dongguan Fifth People′s Hospital from January 2017 to January 2019 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into the experimental group and the control group by the random number table method, 40 patients in each group. The experimental group was treated with FESS, while the control group was treated with traditional surgery. The total response rate of the two groups was compared. The scores of quality of life and main symptoms before and 6 months after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Before treatment, there were no significant differences between the two groups in the scores of living quality factors, such as physical pain, role physical, physical function, social function, vitality, mental health, emotional function and general health (P>0.05).After 6 months of treatment, the scores of living quality factors, such as physical pain, role physical, physical function, social function, vitality, mental health, emotional function and general health in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the scores of living quality factors, such as physical pain, role physical, physical function, social function, vitality, mental health, emotional function and general health in the experimental group were all higher than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05).Before treatment, there were no significant differences between the two groups in the scores of major symptoms, such as nasal congestion, hyposmia, nasal secretion, dizziness, headache and facial pain (P>0.05).The the scores of major symptoms, such as nasal congestion, hyposmia, nasal secretion, dizziness, headache and facial pain of the two groups after 6 months of treatment were all lower than those before treatment, and the scores of major symptoms, such as nasal congestion, hyposmia, nasal secretion, dizziness, headache and facial pain of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05).Conclusion FESS has a significant effect in the treatment of CRS patients. It can significantly improve the quality of life of patients and reduce the main symptoms and should be widely applied in clinical practice.
