Abstract:Objective To evaluate the safety of Haematococcus pluvialis soft capsule. Methods Acute toxicity test, genetic toxicity tests and rat 30 days feeding test were conducted using different doses of Haematococcus pluvialis soft capsule. The differences between the experimental and the control groups were compared. Results No toxic effects of Haematococcus pluvialis soft capsule were observed at doses up to 18 000 mg/(kg·BW)in the acute toxicity test. The results of mice semen abnormality test and mice myeloid cell micronucleus test were all negative, there was no significant difference between the treatment groups and the control group in the 30 days feeding test in terms of body weight, food intake, food utilizing rate, blood biochemistry and hematology (P>0.05).No apparent pathological injury was observed in rat tissues. Conclusion Haematococcus pluvialis soft capsule is non-toxic and non-mutagenic under the current experimental conditions.
