Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of Methimazole and Propylthiouracil on adverse reactions in patients with hyperthyroidism.MethodsFrom February 2006 to February 2016,600 patients with hyperthyroidism were divided into study group and control group by random number table method, with 300 cases in each group. The study group was treated with methimazole and the control group with propylthiouracil. The incidence of adverse reactions was compared between the two groups.ResultsThe incidence of leukopenia, granulocytopenia and rash in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).The abnormal rate of liver function in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05).ConclusionMethimazole and Propylthiouracil may produce different adverse reactions in patients with hyperthyroidism.Methimazole easily leads to the decrease of white blood cells, erythrocytes and thrombocytopenia, and propylthiouracil easily leads to abnormalities of various indexes of liver function.
