Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical effect of modified subtemporal approach and frontotemporal cutting the zygomatic arch subtemporal approach on the resection of cavernous sinus tumors. Methods 72 patients with cavernous sinus tumors with tumor resection in our hospital from March 2010 to March 2013,were randomly assigned to the observation group(36 patients)and control group(36 patients)via number method. The observation group was given modified subtemporal approach resection, and the control group was given frontotemporal cutting the zygomatic arch subtemporal approach resection. The rate of resection, postoperative complications and long-term effects were compared and observed between the two groups. Results The resection rate in the two groups was not statistically different(P>0.05).The incidence rate of disappearance of frontalia and temporal muscle atrophy after the surgery in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group;the proportion of better postoperative activity ability in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);the differences of the proportion of eye muscle functions with level between the observation group and the control group was significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusion The resection rate of cavernous sinus tumors with modified subtemporal approach resection is higher, the postoperative complications can be reduced, and postoperative activity ability can be improved. At the same time, patients′eye muscle functions can be significantly improved. The approach is safe and reliable, which is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
