EEG tracking analysis of radiation brain injury after laryngeal carcinoma radiotherapy

Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the feasibility of electroencephalogram(EEG)detection as early detection of radiation brain injury radiotherapy after laryngeal carcinoma radiotherapy.MethodsEEG of 74 patients with laryngeal carcinoma treated with radiotherapy in Central Hospital of Jiangmen City from May 2007 to May 2011 were followed up to observe before and after radiotherapy for 3 months and 1 year.ResultsEEG of 44 cases was abnormality after radiotherapy for 3 months.Followed up to observe to end(5 years),radiotherapy dose was positive correlation with abnormal EEG and radiation brain injury(r=0.478,0.417,P<0.05).ConclusionPersistent EEG abnormalities or progression in patients with laryngeal cancer after radiation therapy is associated with radiation-induced brain injury.Abnormal EEG is mainly in the increases of tempus θ activity,which shows that brain damage of laryngeal carcinoma patients is mainly in the temporal lobe and suggests that EEG dynamic assessment after radiotherapy can help to early detect radiation brain injury in patients with laryngeal carcinoma.
