Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of Dexmedetomidine on cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in elderly patients with colon cancer after general anesthesia. Methods Forty elderly patients with colon cancer without metastasis who needed operation in Yangjiang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from August 2020 to April 2021 were selected as the research objects, and were divided into reference group and application group according to the random envelope method, with 20 cases in each group. In the application group, 0.7 μg/kg Dexmedetomidine was pumped intravenously within 10 min after induction of tracheal intubation under general anesthesia, while in the reference group, Dexmedetomidine was not used intraoperatively. Mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score, incidence of POCD, S100-β protein and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were compared between the two groups 1 d before surgery and 1 d and 2 d after surgery. Results There was no significant difference in MMSE score 1 day before operation between the two groups (P>0.05). The MMSE score of the application group was higher than that of the reference group 1 and 2 days after operation, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of POCD between the two groups (P>0.05). There were no significant differences in S100-β and IL-6 levels between the two groups 1 day before surgery (P>0.05). The levels of S100-β and IL-6 in the application group were lower than those in the reference group on day 1 and 2 after operation, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of Dexmedetomidine during general anesthesia in elderly patients with colon cancer has little effect on postoperative cognitive function, and has a certain protective effect on the patient′s nervous system.
