Correlation of psychosocial adjustment,self-efficacy and coping style in patients with colorectal cancer

Abstract:Objective To explore the level of psychosocial adjustment in patients with colorectal cancer,and to analyze its correlation with self-efficacy and coping styles.Methods A total of 174 patients with colorectal cancer who were hospitalized in Shenzhen Second People′s Hospital from August 2019 to July 2020 were selected as the research objects and surveyed using the general information questionnaire,self-reported psychosocial adjustment to illness scale,general self-efficacy scale and medical coping modes questionnaire.Results The patient′s psychosocial adjustment score was(52.59±19.64)points,the average score of each dimension item from the highest to the bottom were entertainment,psychological status,work ability,health care,sexual relations,communication,and family relations.General self-efficacy score was(24.51±7.50)points,which was close to the median score of 26 points on the scale; facing dimension score was(18.25±4.20)points,avoidance dimension score was(15.51±4.18)points,yield dimension score was(10.17±3.62)points; facing dimension score was lower than that in the norm,avoidance and yield dimension scores were higher than those in the norm,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); The psychosocial adjustment score was negatively correlated with the self-efficacy score and facing dimension score(r=-0.417,-0.435, P<0.05),and positively correlated with the avoidance and yield dimension scores(r=0.484,0.505, P<0.05).Conclusion The psychosocial adjustment of patients with colorectal cancer is at a moderate level.Medical staff should pay attention to improving the self-efficacy of patients,promoting patients to actively face the disease,so as to improve the psychosocial adjustment level of patients.
