Abstract：Acne is a common chronic inflammatory skin lesion occurring in the sebaceous glands of the hair follicle.The traditional Chinese medicine literature related to acne was retrieved from the data base such as China national knowledge internet(CNKI)and Wan Fang,and then was summarized.The understanding of the etiology,pathogenesis and treatment of acne from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine was discussed.It is found that according to the traditional Chinese medicine,the pathogenesis of acne not only has the factors of congenital endowment,but also is related to factors such as the spleen and stomach and phlegm dampness.The traditional Chinese medicine considers the pathogenesis of acne mainly from the syndrome differentiation of the viscera,but with different emphasis.The external treatment of TCM is used in modern clinical practice including blood-letting puncture,cupping,catgut implantation at acupuncture point and Chinese medicine mask,which has accurate effectiveness.
