Abstract:Objective To explore the application of picture based dialogue tool based on empowerment theory in primary insulin treatment for elderly patients with diabetes. Methods A total of 186 elderly patients with diabetes who were admitted to Huidong People′s Hospital from February 2017 to October 2019 were selected as the research subjects.According to the random envelope method,they were divided into study group (93 cases)and control group (93 cases). The control group received routine education, while the study group received the picture dialogue tool education based on empowerment theory. The living habits, behavioral changes, metabolic indicators and diabetes knowledge cognition score after education were compared between the two groups. Results After education, the proportions of patients in the study group who adhered to exercise, took drugs according to the doctor′s advice, regularly checked their blood glucose,quit smoking and drinking, reasonable diet, and regularly reviewed were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After education, the levels of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, diastolic blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin, postprandial 2 h blood glucose and fasting blood glucose in the study group were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After education,the scores of insulin use, diabetes comprehensive management skills and complications knowledge in the study group were higher than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion For elderly patients with diabetes mellitus, in the first treatment, the implementation of the authorization theory based on the picture dialogue tool education, can improve bad habits and behaviors, improving metabolic indicators, raising patients′knowledge of disease, it has remarkable clinical value.
