Abstract:Objective To assess the clinical value of serum procalcitonin (PCT) in combination with CRP in prediction acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).Methods 120 patients treated in Department of Respiratory Medicine of the Third People′s Hospital of Hubei Province from January to December 2016 were selected and they were divided into AECOPD group (n=60) and stable period group (n=60).The value of PCT,CRP and WBC count was measured in two groups and the data between the two groups was compared. At the same time, the sensitivity and specificity predicting AECOPD of various index were observed, and the correlation of PCT and CRP,WBC count were analyzed. Results PCT and CRP in AECOPD group were significantly higher than those in stable period, there was a statistical significance (P<0.05).The WBC count in AECOPD group was higher than that in stable period, but there was no statistical difference (P>0.05).The sensitivity of PCT,CRP,WBC count judging AECOPD was 87%,73% and 62% respectively, the specificity was 73%, 68% and 60% respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of PCT combined with CRP increased to 88% and 75% respectively.PCT and CRP,WBC showed a positive correlation (r=0.521,0.308,P<0.05).Conclusion Serum PCT has high sensitivity and specificity, dynamic combined detection of PCT and CRP can be used as an inflammatory indicator predicting AECOPD in early stage.
