Abstract:Objective To detect the expression of miR-218-5p in colorectal adenoma (CRA) and analyze its clinical significance. Methods A total of 16 cases of CRA paraffin tissues and eight cases of non-adenoma (NA) paraffin tissues from Shanghai Tongji Hospital from January 2011 to December 2013 were selected as the research objects. The expression of miR-218-5p was detected by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The differences in the expression of miR-218-5p in subgroups of adenomas, such as different gender, age, size, location, number, pathological type, and whether it is accompanied by simultaneous colorectal cancer (sCRC) were statistically analyzed. Results There was no significant difference in the expression of miR-218-5p between the CRA and NA groups (P>0.05). Subgroup analysis found that the expression of miR-218-5p in the serrated adenoma (SA) group was lower than that in the NA group with statistical significance (P<0.05). Further analysis showed that the expressions of miR-218-5p in different genders, ages, sizes, locations, numbers and pathological types were not statistically significant; the expression of miR-218-5p with sCRC was lower than that in CRA without sCRC with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion The expression of miR-218-5p is downregulated in SA and adenoma tissues with sCRC.
