Influence of exercise therapy on body weight and blood glucose in patients with schizophrenia complicated with diabetes mellitus |

Abstract Objective To explore the influence of exercise therapy on body weight and blood glucose in patients with schizophrenia complicated with diabetes mellitus, in order to provide new ideas for clinical treatment. Methods From October 2017 to October 2018, 60 patients with schizophrenics admitted to our hospital were selected as the research objects, and they were divided into the control group (n=31) and the observation group (n=29) according to the method of drawing lots. The control group was treated with routine treatment of schizophrenia complicated with diabetes mellitus, the observation group was treated with exercise therapy on the basis of the control group. The body mass index(BMI), blood glucose Glu level and blood lipid index were compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant difference in the levels of BMI and Glu between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05).The levels of BMI and Glu after 6 months of intervention in the two groups were lower than that before treatment(P<0.05).The levels of BMI and Glu after 6 months of intervention in the obsrevation group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). There were no significant difference in the levels of total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein(HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). The levels of TC, TG and LDL in the two groups after 6 months of treatment were lower than those before treatment, and the level of HDL in the two groups after 6 months of treatment was higher than that before treatment (P<0.05). The levels of TC, TG and LDL in the observation group after 6 months of treatment were lower than those in the control group, and the level of HDL in the observation group after 6 months of treatment was higher than that before treatment (P <0.05). The total compliance rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Exercise therapy can effectively reduce the body weight of patients with schizophrenia,improve the blood lipid level, and stabilize the blood glucose of diabetic patients at the normal level, and improve the treatment compliance.
